RARE Original letter from the United States Treasury Department Office of the Secretary to the Chairman of the Light House Board in Key West, FL. The letter dated July 13,1901 is confirming the employment of a Blacksmith’s Helper at $1.50 per diem.
The letter is signed LJ Gage. Mr. Lyman J. Gage was the Secretary of the Treasury Department from 1897-1902. There is a stamp from the Light House Board from July 15, 1901. Also a stamp from the Office of L.H. Inspector 7th district July 28,1901 received in
Key West, Fla.
The back of the letter (which has been copied for presentation purposes) has a stamp from Office of the U.S. Light-House Inspector Seventh District. Handwritten is Key West July 23, 1901. Forwarded F Singer Commander USN Inspector 7 LH Dist. with some initials. Frederic Singer was in this post from 1899-1902.
